When a fifteen year old Irish boy Paddy Michael Kilpatrick (15) falls foul of a football club in the north east of England in 1982 they go to extreme measures to have him removed from its junior training program after the Hyde Park Bombing. Or it could be that he’s crap at football.

SUMMARY

Paddy, a happy go lucky teenager leaves his idyllic life in rural Ireland to make it as a pro footballer but the realities of English football in the early 1980's give him a very rude awakening. Part of the problem is Paddy’s unwavering determination to make it as a pro no matter what, sees him navigate a string of highly volatile characters who want him out of the club at all costs. Tensions are high after the IRA bomb Hyde Park and rising anti Irish sentiment in Sunderland allows Paddy to ignore the taunts his dad bribed the club to let him stay and he’s actually shit at football. The manager wants rid of him from the off but this bizarre window of opportunity for Paddy, though isolated from his fellow apprentices, allows him to actually improve his skills as he starts playing wth the street kids and practising against a wall. But will he improve enough to survive the cut at the end of the season.
